What’s Up with Aub?
♠ Fantabulous news, people. Yours Truly, Aubrey Leatherwood, has just signed a contract with, drum roll please, Cobblestone Press. Yes, I am now a Cobblestonian (not sure if that is the correct term, but I’ll find out :) . So come by once in a while to find out when “Model Parent” is releasing!
January 22, 2010 ♠ Guess who just got a CAPA nomination? Me, of course. The People You Know; The Sex They Have has been nominated for the 2009 Psyche award from The Romance Studio Cupid and Psyche Awards. http://www.theromancestudio.com/capa.php . But not only that, it gets better, sooo much better. I, Aubrey Leatherwood, have been nominated for Favorite Erotic Author 2009! Can you believe it? It’s wonderful! So I’ve been posting excerpts and thanks and hellos over at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/theromancestudio
♠ I’m branching out! That’s right! You’re going to see some genres from Aubrey Leatherwood this year. Of course, I’ve got some contemporary erotica on the horizon, but for sure. I’ve also got some erotic horror and fantasy on the horizon. I’ve always written it, but I’ve waffled on whether to publish or not. Waffling over! Gonna shoot for it. Wish me luck!

♠ Dime is available now at Phaze! Have you got your copy yet? Stop by Phaze books and read this funny, sexy, and somehow socially challenging piece? It’s a fun ride, c’mon, you know you want to. Click here to buy: http://www.king-cart.com/Phaze/product=Dime/exact_match=exact
♠ Dime has received it’s first review! Champagne all around! BD at Book Wenches Reviews gave it a 4.25 and had this awesomeness to say: “I found Dime to be an entertaining fantasy with clever word play and well-drawn and appealing characters.
“Many of the thoughts that the character Nicole has about rap music – especially the sometimes misogynistic and hateful lyrics – ring true for me. I’ve never been able to get into it, and quite honestly have always found it to be just so much noise. However, this story reveals an enjoyable and playful side to rap that I never considered. The joy that the character Nicole finds in the rhythm of the music, playing with words, and expressing herself in a tongue-in-cheek manner is very engaging. Her self-deprecating humor and attitude make her quite likeable, and I found myself looking at her as almost friend as well as a fictional character. There is an energy present in Dime that is catchy and irresistible. Read the full review here: http://www.bookwenches.com/november09reviews.htm
♠ Another announcement! Direct Connect is now being offered as a free read to celebrate Phaze’s 5 year anniversary. This is a quick, steamy read about a fellow who just can’t seem to keep his hands off his boss, but she doesn’t seem to mind too much. Just stop by http://www.phaze.com and you can read it… for free! If you’d like to get a taste of it here, stop by my Fiction page.
♠ WIPs, WIPs, and more WIPs! I have been writing up a storm for the past two months, folks. Really I don’t know where the inspiration has come from our even how I managed to squeeze out free time! But I have about four new stories that are bound to weave their spell, make you fall in love, and—of course—get you all hot and bothered. In honor of the new stories, I have added a WIPs page, go check out the follow upcoming titles now!

♠ I am thrilled to report that Imperfection just received 4 cherries from reviewer Cholla at Whipped Cream Reviews! The review is excellent (despite the reader’s love/hate relationship with Candace, because hey, we all may have a bit of a tug-of-war with her). Cholla says: “A truly wonderful story that everyone can relate to, married or not, Imperfection is one of the most true-to-life love stories I have ever read.” Take a look at the full review here.
♠ The People You Know; The Sex They Have has also received a new AWESOME review! Bonnie Jean at The Romance Studio had this to say: “She is great at "showing, not telling", and a master at writing erotic love scenes that never seem repetitive. I love this author's work, and if you're a fan of this genre, I recommend reading this collection of short stories.” Read the full review here.
♠ Dime releases November 2 at http://www.phaze.com . This story makes me laugh a lot and it also makes me think about my own attitudes regarding rap or hip hop stereotypes. It’s also pretty sexy. I hope you all enjoy it!
♠ I said I was going to stop my sports-writing on this site because that is not the purpose of this place. But Brett Favre is a Minnesota Viking! Damn, see that wagon, I’m falling off of it! :)
♠ I’ve posted an excerpt from my sexy new WIP If You Asked Me To.

♠ Here’s Aubrey, checking in after a very long respite. What have I been up to? Well working mainly. What have I been doing for fun? Well nothing mainly :) no time. However the Fourth of July holiday is fast approaching and I have every intention of spending it chillaxing (kinda hate that word, but alas I just used it) with friends and family. Dancing will be done. Drinks will be had. I will probably get frustrated with Infamous because as much as I love the game, it’s a shooter at its heart and yah know how I feel about shooters.
♠ As far as writing news goes, I am slow and steady with my edits for Dime coming to you in November from Phaze Books. I really find this story enchanting, and not just because I wrote it. I am also working on my latest inspiration which I am loosely titling “The Blonde Homicide.” It’s not for the faint of heart.

♠ Hello Darlin’. Nice to see you. It’s been a long time… :)
♠ News… I have some! Imperfection has been reviewed by Delane at Coffee Time Romance and it has received a whopping 5 Cups. Yay Yay Yay! I’m so excited about the review! Would you like to read it? Well here’s the link. In the interest of being fair, Romantic Times gave it a two. It’s funny ‘cause the complaint from Romantic Times was exactly the opposite. RT says you may not care about the characters CTR says you’ll fall in love with them. I’m sticking with Coffee Time because I truly, truly love the characters in this novel.
♠ Last week, I was interviewed by Urban Reviews. Read it here. They also reviewed The People You Know; The Sex They Have. It’s a favorable review, though I think they wanted to see more sex… Hm. I can live with that! :)
♠ I’m joining an anthology! Yay! I can’t divulge the subject yet, but if you pop over to the Fiction Page you can see a little bit about the story: If You Asked.
♠ Did I win, did I win? LOL, I was unable to attend the Romantic Times Convention in Orlando last week :( . It’s funny because I know I was nominated for an award but can’t find out who won it. I’ve googled and googled and asked and no one seems to know :) . I’m thinking if I won, someone would have told me? Right? Right? Well, s’OK. I was just thrilled to be nominated and I think it says a lot for my work.
♠ Oh yeah… almost forgot the biggest news ;) Or maybe I’m just saving the best for last. Guess who just got a brand spankin’ new contract for her short contemporary erotic piece, “Dime”? Well, me of course! Haven’t heard me talk about the story much? Well I’ve put up a bit about it over on… you got it! The Fiction page.

♠ Contest Announcements! YES! I am giving away a couple of FREE copies of Imperfection on March 16, 2009! One book may be won at my Savannah Chase author chat. Another, and this is where it gets fun, will be won on one of the various loops I’ll be chatting at that day. See you there!
♠ You may have noticed that I have changed the site a bit. For one, I’m discontinuing my Sports Stack for just a bit. I am putting myself on the strictest of writer diets. One of those things I’m not consuming until I have more time on my hands is sports. There are some other things: Gaming (after today), alcohol consumption (wine with dinner doesn’t count), and speed reading romance and fantasy novels.
February 22, 2009
♠ Three weeks now. Imperfection is out in three weeks. I can’t wait. I’m trying to think of a huge, crazy contest for the release, but so far am drawing a blank. Never fear though, in one week, I will have my giant contest ready.
♠ What am I working on? Well... you know I’m always working on a thousand things at once. There’s a new erotic short in my future called Direct Connect. Doesn’t that sound sexy? I know, I know. It doesn’t sound sexy at all, but you know how I roll! LOL. The story is quirky and fun and smart and… well… sexy! :) Can’t wait to see how well I pull it off.
♠ I went to play poker Friday night in a tournament at the local greyhound track. Find out how I did at the Sports Stack.

♠ Oh happy day! I think I’m done with edits on Imperfection. Let me tell you, people, this was probably the most—absolute most—painful edit process I’ve been through as of yet. But, you know what? That means three things.
· First: I really felt deeply about this story. Deeply enough to stick with the grueling schedule of completing edits even though it conflicted with everything else going on in my world.
· Second: My editor felt deeply about making sure this story was presented in the cleanest and most thoughtful way.
· Third: This has turned out to be even more fantastic than I thought at first. I know, I know. I say it’s all awesome. But I believe in this story so much and this couple so much I can’t help but be pleased… I am now, sadly, deleting the excerpt that’s been up for ages and replacing it with a new… fresh excerpt. Read it here. Hope you enjoy!
♠ Here is the link for the Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Nominees… Guess who’s there. Oh yeah, it’s me, it’s me. In case you were wondering… yes, I was dancing. It’s not every day a girl gets her first novel nominated for an award for Best Contemporary Erotica.
♠ PIRATES! Man, I don’t know why, but I have become completely fascinated with the issue of real life honest-to-goodness pirates off the coast of Somalia. I mean, I have all of these questions and all of these stories swimming around in my head about it and I can’t seem to get enough information. Now, as you may have guess, this is turning into a modern day pirate novel in my head, but it’s not formulated yet. I’m going to “marinate” on the story and get back to you if something fabulous materializes.
♠ Did you know you can now get my book at the Sony Bookstore? For reals! You can. Here’s the link: http://ebookstore.sony.com/ebook/aubrey-leatherwood/the-people-you-know-the-sex-they-have/

♠ I have HUGE news! The People You Know; The Sex They Have has been nominated for the Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award for the Best Contemporary Erotica of 2008! OMG, when I saw it I was so amazed and so ecstatic. This truly is a happy day! I’m not completely sure how it works, but I believe awards are announced/delivered in April at the Romantic Times Convention held this year in Orlando, Florida.
♠ Some additional good news: I just got another great review for The People You Know; The Sex They Have from Rites of Romance Reviews. The Review is AWESOME and here are some notes from it.
The People You Know, The Sex They Have is an anthology written by Aubrey Leatherwood. The stories introduce you to a myriad of characters with different sexual situations and emotions. These three tales are definitely erotic in nature. I enjoyed where Leatherwood took her characters. I would recommend this book to those who like erotic stories.
♠ On a different note, I just finished the first round of edits on Imperfection. The more I work on this story, the more I’m enjoying it and the more I seem to be learning about myself and about women in general. It’s an old adage for writers to write what they know. What I’m finding interesting, is that that plays differently when what you “know” may not be the average experience. Here’s an example. In the story, there is a routine breast exam. Now you may wonder what that has to do with the price of tea in China, but you’ll have to read the book to find out!
Still, the way I described a breast exam somewhat startled a beta reader. It was a female reader who was familiar with breast exams. I am also female and familiar with breast exams. So, when we discussed it, it turns out that they way her doctor conducts the exam and the way my doctors have done so are different. I was astonished, enough so to go do research on breast exams, something I never thought I’d have to do because I had first hand knowledge of them. This book has seriously pushed me in a way that nothing I’ve written before ever has.
